The Union Army of the Tennessee has Stephen Woodworth. The Army of the Cumberland has Larry Daniels. Even the Army of the Ohio has some guy who wrote a book about it. Yet the most famous Civil War army of them all, Robert E. Lee's legendary Army of Northern Virginia did not find its chronicler until 2008, when Prof. Joseph T. Glatthaar wrote "General Lee's Army: From Victory to Collapse." He followed it up earlier this year with an even more in-depth look at "Soldiering in the Army of Northern Virginia: A Statistical Portrait of the Troops Who Served under Robert E Lee."
